Taranto's Comunal Government meets its guest in the Palazzo Pantaleo, a seventeenth-century palace named for the barons who once lived there; it is located in the area of the city's ancient port. Overlooking the "Mar Grande" (The Large Sea), the facade is decorated with numerous small wrought iron balconies.

Upon entering the Palazzo, via a monumental portal, one ascends a grand staircase leading to the main floor. One must also look above at the marvelous eighteenth-century stucco vault ceiling and late seventeenth-century maiolica floors. The elegant doors of these rooms were recently restored and now exhibit their original flaming red hue and detailed gold decorative elements.
