LUNGOMARE

The Lungomare Vittorio Emanuele II is quite possibly the most breathtaking and scenic pedestrian walkway in Taranto. The city's Communal administration recently completed a refurbishing project here. Tall palms and evergreen trees intermingle and quietly grace the Mar Grande ("The Large Sea") and the grandiose buildings erected during the Fascist era: These monumental edifices - constructed in the 1930s - are the site of various governmet offices
Among them there are the Government Palace, with a magnificient rotunda in front, and the Main Post Office: The best panorama is realized from the vast rotunda, where on a clear day the view extends to the mountains of Calabria. The sunset over the Mar Grande, which silhouttes the Cheradi Islands on the horizon, is a visual spectacle with few equals.
